New pseudobulb!

I always take a good look at all of my orchids when I'm watering them. This is just to make sure they all look like they're doing well and some times, you find new growth.

Today, on the Pacific Sun Spot, I saw the start of a new pseudobulb! This is an orchid I got in, I think, 2012. It was a division from someone else's plant and it had 3 pseudobulbs. With the new pseudobulb, it will have 6. I am still waiting for it to flower but I hope this just means I am one step closer to seeing actual flowers!

Oncidium growth & pleated leaves

Twinkle's new pseudobulbs are growing! As it gets warmer and it is actively growing, I have now moved to watering it every 2-3 days. This morning was a watering day. You can see that the pseudobulb is a little wrinkly.

On this one, the pseudobulb is still growing taller. I wonder when it will start to widen and become more bulb like. He's getting watered every other day. That keeps the existing pseudobulbs from becoming a bunch of shriveled pseudobulbs. Unfortunately, I still don't think I'm watering enough since the leaves are still pleating. Once they pleat, I don't think they unpleat.

The oncidiums all live in a south facing window. They apear to be happy there!

Oncidium Catatante update

The pseudobulb is growing bigger. I've noticed that it grows in two steps. First, it gets bigger/taller. Then the pseudobulb fattens up at the base. We're still at the getting bigger/taller phase but it's nice to see. I wonder when I'll see flowers.

New growth keeps growing!

After years of killing orchids, it really excites me to see new growth of pseudobulbs and roots. It means I'm doing something right and the orchid is getting the care it needs. On this guy, the pseudobulb is developing and I can see new roots growing. Do you see that bright white root with the green growing tip?

I do wonder about whether or not I should repot this one. There is still room in the pot for growing medium which is why I've kept him in the same pot but there are quite a mass of roots down there.

New growth!

I'm excited to see that there is new growth on this one. Before I left for my trip, it was just a little bump still in the sheath. When I got back, it had started to peek out from the sheath. So now, all I can do is continue to feed it, give it light, and wait. One day, I will see flowers.

An oncidium - Onc Catatante "Pacific Sun Spot"

I got this little guy at the same time that I got the Phal Baldan's Kaleidoscope. He came from the NCOS Member Show Table. I'm guessing he was a division off of a larger plant. I was volunteering there that year and one of the other volunteers talked me into getting him. For $3, I had an experiment plant. He started off as 3 pseudo-bulbs. The newest pseudo-bulb is the horizontal one that you see.

He's a little sun burned since I had him in the south window when he first arrived and you can see a little bit of accordion pleating in the leaves from the time when I didn't water him for about two weeks. But overall, he's a healthy plant with nice green leaves and fat pseudo-bulbs.

A few days ago, I noticed a bump coming off of the newest pseudo-bulb. It's starting to break out of the husk there and I think that may be the next growth. I'm so excited!!!!
